We’ve spoke before about How to Find Your Passion and how to find the inspiration in the most unusual places, but I believe every day is a time to reflect and appreciate the heart and the warmth it creates when we fan the flames of our passions. Today I’d like to speak about recognizing when you’re not there…. when it’s time to just stop. When to know you need a moment of reflection to demonstrate your gratitude, or consider that you aren’t where you truly want/need to be. We’ve spoken about cliches, and how they’re simple phrasing often has a depth of meaning. I wish to use cliches and quotes to help provide some attitudes and then talk about some problem solving techniques.
I would like to talk about the first step: admitting there is a problem. Recognize this as soon as possible by reflecting daily, and address these thoughts before such a time as you can relate to the cliche “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.”
“I’ve been through some terrible things in my life, and some of them; actually happened.” Mark Twain.
Many times we can stress and fixate on things so much so that the thought of this happening has far outweighed the happening itself. How much of the problem are you creating for yourself?
Have you ever started to stress on Sunday night over work on Monday? Well now you’re 8 hour day, however stressful, has interrupted your weekend to become (perhaps) another 8 hours of stress. An 8 hour workday cost you 16 hours of peace. Why are you doing this to yourself? Did stressing make the day easier? Sometime it’s the job and maybe it’s time to move on a remove yourself from a toxic environment, but many times – it’s you. A moment of reflection can help you decide a course of action. “What am I doing to make my day better? What else can be done? What will help me relax outside of work to make better use of my off-time and take my mind off of work?”
Start with you.
Attitude is all about you as it is the only ting you can truly control; yourself, and how you act. Are you doing your best? Are you happy? What do you want? How can you get it? How are you impacting the world around you?

You are a wonder. A work of study, experience, love and friendship. You are never done learning and growing. The greatest individuals of our species have failed numerous times before becoming the timeless treasures they are. You will “fail”, and you can choose to learn from those lessons, or you can choose to be defined by them. This life is yours, you can make it count or you can let it pass you by. Our destinations are the same, what will your journey look like?
Start today. It’s never too late to change your stars and build the life you want. Patience isn’t about “letting things happen”. It’s about making things happen, and not rushing or stressing when they don’t unfold exactly as you/when you want them to.
“There’s no such thing as a failure who keeps trying”. Unknown
Don’t give up, you are worth it. Whatever life you want to live is attainable, it exists for you.
Reflect; meditate, sit still quietly and think, write notes, whatever sounds good for you; on what the problem is and what you can do to make it better. The only wrong thing to do; do nothing. There are plenty of guided meditations on youtube that do wonders!
Exercise. I hate to say it, not my ordinary language, but you’ll feel good after a little routine every couple of days. Could be a walk, gym, yoga, or even just some PMR (progressive muscle relaxation). You can also find some guided exercises online.
Take action. While you may feel overwhelmed and want to hide under your covers under the guise of “I can’t do it” or “I’m not worth it”, these are excuses. This is laziness, complacency, you are comfortable being unhappy and that is the most dangerous way to live. Do something! Start with anything, something simple like a walk, a trip to the store, see a movie, reach out to some friends and if you think you don’t have any – message me. You know what hasn’t worked for you? Staying in bed under your covers saying “I can’t do it”. You know what might work? Anything else!
You owe it to yourself to try. And if it doesn’t work out exactly how you wanted; try again =)
